A former cultist returns to their hometown to finish what they started, but fate has different plans for them. A short horror RPG.

Revenir is a jam game designed in RPG Maker MZ within 9 days. This is top-down 2D exploration RPG that tasks you with investigating the doomed town of Revenir.

Talk to the cultist villagers, complete quests, battle against strange beasts,  unlock forgotten memories, and finally face the truth behind why you returned.

This game is an entry for the 1st ever Toasty Time RPG Maker Game Jam. 

The theme is Unnerving and Uncomfortable and we had only 9 days to finish our game. Aside from following the Itch.io terms of service and using an RPG Maker engine or similar, there were no other stipulations to this challenge.

🕯️KNOWN ISSUES 🕯️

• This game uses screen effects and transition effect plugins which have been confirmed to cause slowdown on certain PCs
• Autosave does not function and is turned off
• Message offset "breaks" and the "culprit" has not been found. Messages might appear more offset than usual
• When  leaving a building/entering a building, you may be moved in the opposite or wrong direction. Simply use the door again to fix. NOTE: If your game crashes after this, please kindly restart to your last save and inform me of where the crash occurred, please and thank you (your game can be saved at a monolith).
• There is a sound effect at the end of the game that I forgot to stop from playing - I recommend turning off your sound at the last portion until this is updated in v1.1. It plays during the credits too, so please do view those from the main menu. Thanks!

Arrow Keys - Move your character Z, Spacebar, Enter - Action button/Interact with the world X - Cancel/Open Menu/Close Menu Point and Click - move to the targeted location/select command (not recommended, but I elected to include it for accessibility purposes)

Controllers  should be supported through the default RPG Maker functionality.

Analog Stick - Move your character Northmost Button -Menu Eastmost Button - Sprint Southmost Button -Cancel Westmost Button - Confirm

AI was used in the creation of plugins for this game. The following (2) plugins were created with assistance from AI tools:

• FFA_SeparateFaceWindow.js
  (AI was used to create a plugin that allows for the positioning of character faces outside of the message window. This was needed so that the wonderful art doesn't get cut off when the message window is shorter than 4 rows)
• FFA_DragTilemapMaskPersistFix.js
  (AI was used to create this plugin that fixes an issue with the Drag_Tilemap plugin. The issue causes all tile masks to disappear upon opening the menu. Including this was needed to preserve the tilemap feature of the game)
